About DesiUtils.in

Free online tools, made in India, for the Indian internet user.

DesiUtils.in is a collection of 140+ free-to-use online tools built for the Indian internet user. Tools run in your browser - no file uploads, no sign-ups, and your files and inputs are never uploaded to us. (A few tools send just your search query to a public lookup API, and optional paid downloads use a payment provider for the transaction only.)

We built DesiUtils because we were tired of jumping between 10 different websites for simple tasks - compressing an image here, calculating EMI there, generating a kundli, looking up an IFSC code somewhere else. We wanted one place that does it all, fast, free, and private.

Our finance tools are built specifically for India - ₹ formatting, lakhs and crores, GST slabs, Indian tax regime, bank FD rates, and more. You won’t find these on international tool sites.

The same India-first care goes into our Vedic astrology suite - Kundli generation, Kundli matching, Vimshottari Dasha, Navamsa and dosha checks all run on a precise sidereal (Lahiri) engine entirely in your browser, so your birth details never leave your device.

DesiUtils is built and maintained by a small team of developers based in India. We’re not a big company - just people who like building useful things. We also built the site for Radiant Minds, which provides medical thesis, manuscript and publication support for researchers.

Under the Hood

Built with Next.js, deployed on Vercel, powered by open-source libraries. Core tool processing happens client-side using JavaScript; the handful of exceptions (public lookup APIs, payment checkout) are spelled out in our Privacy Policy.

How We Build and Maintain These Tools

DesiUtils.in is built and maintained as an independent publisher. Every tool follows the same editorial standards.

Data Sources We Cite

  • Income tax slabs and sections - Income Tax Department, Finance Act notifications
  • GST slabs and rules - Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs
  • Bank rates and interest schedules - Reserve Bank of India
  • Mutual fund NAVs - AMFI India and MFAPI.in
  • Gold rates - Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association
  • IFSC codes - Razorpay IFSC API (publicly documented)
  • Pincode data - India Post (postalpincode.in)
  • Government portal links - directly to .gov.in or .nic.in sources, never aggregator sites
  • Vedic astrology - classical texts and published reference works cited per tool, including BPHS, works by B. V. Raman, and South Indian sources; planetary and ascendant positions computed with Meeus/VSOP87-based algorithms using the Traditional Lahiri ayanamsa and mean lunar nodes

Update Cadence

  • Tax-related tools (Income Tax, GST, HRA, TDS) - reviewed within 7 days of any Finance Act, Budget, or CBIC notification
  • Bank rate-dependent tools (FD, RD, PPF, SSY) - reviewed within 14 days of RBI rate-cycle decisions
  • Government portal links and section numbers - verified quarterly
  • Gold rates and currency rates - users see indicative defaults; live rates linked from primary sources

Correction Policy

Spotted an error or stale data? Email desiutils.in@gmail.com with the tool name and what is wrong. We acknowledge within 48 hours and ship a fix within 7 days for verifiable corrections.

Accuracy Discipline

  • Every calculation runs on documented formulas. No AI-generated math.
  • Section numbers, effective dates, and rates are verified against the actual Gazette notification or Finance Act, not training-data assumptions.
  • Tools clearly state "informational purposes only" for tax, health, and legal calculations - users are directed to qualified professionals for personal advice.
  • External APIs (IFSC, pincode, NAV) are documented in our Privacy Policy with the exact data flow.

Astrology Engine and Chart Parity

Charts are computed in your browser from Meeus/VSOP87-based astronomical algorithms, using the Traditional Lahiri ayanamsa and mean lunar nodes. On two pinned test charts, our sidereal longitudes for the nine grahas agreed with Jagannatha Hora - a widely used reference program among practitioners - to within one arcminute, with the Lagna matching at sign level. Divisional-chart fixtures are compared with the corresponding named panels in JHora or other established calculators, with the calculation scheme and settings recorded for each comparison. Expected placements are pinned in our automated test suite, so a change that altered a checked sign or house would fail the build.

Placements near a sign, nakshatra, pada, navamsa or other divisional boundary can differ between engines that use a different ayanamsa, true rather than mean nodes, or a different divisional-chart convention. Such differences can reflect convention rather than error. Tools that depend on these boundaries flag close cases where it matters.
