In Parashari astrology the tenth house from the ascendant is the karma sthana - the house of deeds, and by extension of profession, action in the world and public standing. Saravali’s synonym verses name it in those terms directly. A significator is simply a chart factor that classical sources read when that subject comes up: the house, whoever rules it, whoever sits in it, and certain planets held to signify work by their own nature.
