The Hora is the second of the sixteen divisional charts (Shodasavarga) described in the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra - and the simplest: each sign contributes just two horas, the Sun’s and the Moon’s, making 24 horas across the zodiac - “12 of the Sun’s and 12 of the Moon’s”. The classical varga-use verse assigns the Hora to wealth: resources and sustenance.
Like every varga, the D2 is a derived chart: it takes each planet’s exact sidereal longitude from the birth chart and re-maps it - here by simple halves of each sign, which is why the D2 is the most forgiving varga for approximate birth times.
For an odd sign the first 15 deg belong to the Sun’s hora and the last 15 deg to the Moon’s; for an even sign the order reverses. The chart then places each body in the sign its hora lord owns - Leo for the Sun, Cancer for the Moon - so the Parashari D2 occupies exactly two signs, with houses counted whole-sign from the Hora Lagna (with a Leo Hora Lagna, Leo is house 1 and Cancer house 12).
A neat consequence of the reversal rule: crossing a sign boundary never changes the hora - an odd sign’s Moon half flows into the next (even) sign’s Moon half - so the hora lord actually changes only at mid-sign lines, in contiguous 30-deg stretches. The near-boundary flag in the table above measures distance to those hora-changing lines, not to every 15-deg edge.
Methods note: some schools and software also construct alternative hora charts that distribute horas across all twelve signs. Those are different constructions with different rules; this tool computes the classical Parashari hora only and does not approximate the variants.

If you came looking for today’s hora timings, this calculator is not that tool - it computes the birth-chart varga only.
The classical assignment is simply wealth from Hora. Later practitioner sources characterize the Sun’s and Moon’s horas in differing ways that we could not anchor to a consistent authority, so this page deliberately reports placements without attaching outcomes or flavours to them. The D2 is read together with the D1’s own wealth houses, and practitioners hold that the varga refines the birth chart rather than overriding it - the same relationship the Dasamsa (D10) has with career and the Saptamsa (D7) with progeny.

Mainstream calculators like Drik Panchang and Prokerala render it the same way. Alternative hora constructions used by some schools map horas across all twelve signs; this tool computes the classical Parashari form and does not compute those variants.

Because the hora flips only at mid-sign lines, the Hora Lagna changes only about once every two hours of birth time on average (the same cadence as the D1 rising sign; it varies by rising sign and latitude), and only about one planet placement in fifty sits within the engine's 0.3-deg bound of a flip line. This tool still reports your minutes-to-boundary and flags any close calls honestly.
